WHAT: Join us for an immersive exploration of life casting techniques. led by the talented artist and educator, Cesar Kastro, in this three-hour class, participants will delve into the rich tradition of life casting, drawing inspiration from the ancient practices of pre-Columbian South America.
During the workshop, Cesar will guide attendees through a journey, beginning with an exploration of pre-Columbian casting history. Learn how Andean Indigenous peoples expressed and continue to express their reverence for the human form, preserving its likeness through intricate sculptural techniques.
Participants will then have the opportunity to learn hands-on as they master the art of life casting using alginate—a versatile and safe material that preserves the integrity of the objects being cast. No prior mold-making or sculptural expertise is required, making this workshop accessible to all skill levels.
By the end of the session, participants will have not only created their own stunning life casts but also gained a deeper appreciation for the artistry and cultural significance of this practice.
