Spring/Break: SEE/SAW Jess Bass curated by Nadia Tahoun
We are currently met with the demise of our planet, political leaders worldwide swinging to the right, leading trends of personal gain over humanitarian principles, a news cycle that capitalizes on itself... There is a collective sense of vertigo witnessed in these existential times. Are you dizzy yet? Do you feel off-balance? Is this feeling temporary or long-term? It is in the excess that we can question what is now and what is coming.
See / Saw explores vertigo as a sensation symptomatic of the modern-day. Actively searching and dealing with the virtues and limitations of materialism, consumerism, and redundancy of excess, this installation is consumed by detail. So much so that the physical walls of the installation are defined as systematic boundaries to keep the inside organized from cracking and flowing into the outside.
